Eastern Grass Shrimp (Palaemonetes paludosus)

Also known as the ghost or glass shrimp, the eastern grass shrimp is a species of freshwater glass shrimp native to the Appalachian Mountains, Louisiana, and parts of Texas and California. Eastern grass shrimp usually inhabit slow moving freshwater streams, ponds and lakes where they feed on algae, plants and small insects nocturnally.Their transparency acts as near perfect camouflage as predators can see right through them, they support this by manipulating their pigment granules to match closely with their background. Eastern grass shrimp have also become fairly popular in the aquarium trade as well.

Hummingbird Bobtail Squid (Euprymna berryi)

Also known as Berry’s bobtail squid, the hummingbird bobtail squid is a species of bobtail squid found throughout the warm waters of eastern Asia. Like most bobtail squid, berry’s bobtail squid has a light organ in its gill cavity which emits light to help it hide its silhouette from predators. During the day the hummingbird bobtail squid can be found buried in the sediment, at night they will emerge to feed on small invertebrates like shrimp and other crustaceans.

I love how tightly he seems to be gripping the staff. The expression on his face mirrors that tension. Its one of the last things he owns from his life 100 years ago, hand crafted specifically for his use, a piece of wood that reveals succinct memories— maybe learning to fly with his teachers and peers, or getting into trouble with his friends across the globe, even the simple freedom of watching a peaceful sky from above the clouds— and represents the thousands of others in all four temples that lost their flight in the genocide. By running he has incurred so much damage, but he recognizes that even the loss of this is meant to be. So he lets it go to ash.

Nilgai (Boselaphus tragocamelus)

Also known as the blue bull, the nilgai is a large species of Asian antelope found throughout India. Like other antelopes the nilgai is a grazer and can often be found in grass and scrublands foraging on grasses, fruits and leaves. Like other ungulates nilgai tend to form small herds of same sex individuals, these herds are not fixed and indiviudals leave and join reguarly. Nigai are sexually dimorphic as females are a cream color and males are a blue-brown color thus the nickname blue bull.
